Republicans filed suit against Bob Barr to remove him from the Pennsylvania ballot
US democracy at work. No matter what you think about this guy (you can certainly disagree with him on a number of issues), McCain’s tactic is a disgrace, not because it’s undemocratic, but because it’s worse than in Mugabe’s Zimbabwe where opponents remain on the ballots to the very end and the fun begins after [...]

Fox News Coverage of DNC Protest Cut as Activists Turn on Reporter
This is a really funny piece. After Fox News reporter Griff Jenkins disturbs the Denver protest, the protesters loudly and clearly express their sentiment towards Fox (as if they had any other choice.) On a separate note, it’s truly shocking how much propaganda Fox manages to spew in just 3 minutes.

AlterNet: I Spent Years as a POW with John McCain and His Finger Should Not Be Near the Red Button
“John McCain is a long-time acquaintance of mine that goes way back to our time together at the U.S. Naval Academy and as Prisoners of War in Vietnam. He is a man I respect and admire in some ways. But there are a number of reasons why I will not vote for him for President [...]

The London Free Press: Foreign Aid and Samaritans Not Welcome
“They wouldn’t hear us out. They’d hear the first part of our answer and walk away. One officer, she said, suggested they help out at home. ‘Don’t you have hurricanes in Canada? Why can’t you help your own people?’. After a long wait — they said they saw a man with five unregistered rifles in [...]

No Wonder Our Hospitals Are a Disaster - People with Marketing Degrees Are Running Them
“Business school graduates have replaced doctors and public health experts as CEOs of hospitals, often at patients’ expense.”
“The organizational culture of medicine used to be dominated by the ideals of professionalism and voluntarism which softened the underlying acquisitive activity,” Starr wrote. “The restraints exercised by those ideals now grow weaker. The ‘health center’ of [...]

AlterNet: How Anti-Intellectualism Is Destroying America
“‘It’s like these guys take pride in being ignorant.’” Barack Obama finally said it. Though a successful political and electoral strategy, the Right’s stand against intelligence has steered them far off course, leaving them — and us — unable to deal successfully with the complex and dynamic circumstances we face as a nation and a [...]
